When I bought my place in Tribeca, it was functional but empty, with a fair number of architectural quirks. I have my own quirks as well, like I have a ton of books and tools and things. A lot of stuff for a designer to work around :). I brought in a number of different designers over a couple of days, and Jennifer from JLW Interiors immediately stood out, there was never a question that she both knew her stuff and was super creative. Right off the bat she had some really great ideas, most of which we wound up building. The best thing about Jennifer for me is how she really built around what was already there, making everything fit and enhance the space rather than dominate it. For example, on the ground floor there was a large metal staircase and opposite was a wall that had a fireplace that was built into a somewhat oddly-shaped angled protrusion. She noticed that it kinda matched the angle of the staircase, and ended up building both an absolutely beautiful bar with custom tiles behind the shelves, angled to fit under the staircase, and a matching shelving setup next to the fireplace, also angled. She also did a pretty tricky stone installation for the wall that the fireplace was built into, it came out perfectly.

Theres a large room on the ground floor that I wanted to turn into a library, and she really shined here - adding a full set of shelves (with a beautiful metal ladder) on one wall and a couch and a reupholstered antique chair on the facing wall. Its an extremely comfortable room, I love it, it turned out better than I could have hoped. She also did a full redesign of the master bedroom and guest bedroom, picking out some really fantastic furniture. Shes also some kind of pillow master, theres custom-made pillows with specific fabric for all of the seating areas.

She was extremely easy to work with, I have a weird schedule and could really only meet once every couple of months, but she was always able to accomodate my schedule and was fantastic about getting stuff done while I was away. Always extremely well-prepared and efficient, we would meet and shed have an agenda with multiple options and ideas, and we were able to simply go through everything, pick out fabrics etc and make decisions, and then shed just get it done.

The space was complicated, stairs and huge iron pillars everywhere, lots of stuff with character that I wanted to retain, and a reasonably complicated schedule, and that the process wound up being so seamless, with really zero major problems, no disappointments or surprises, is a real testament to her professionalism and attention to detail. Essentially a perfect experience, I wouldnt hesitate to hire JLW Interiors again (in fact I plan to in another couple of years), and Id recommend Jennifer to anyone. And I didnt even mention the chandelier she found, or any number of other creative solutions she came up with - just a fantastic experience, I couldnt be happier. An absolute gem.
